Capturing the Essence of Humanity Through Photography

“A good portrait is one that says something about the person. We usually see parts of ourselves in others, so a good portrait speaks to us. It tells us a story.” Steve McCurry

Emotions

I captured this image of Bill, my husband, a few weeks after receiving news that he required a kidney transplant. The portrait reflects the complex emotions he was experiencing, from the anxiety and fear of the unknown, to the hope and determination to overcome the challenges ahead. It’s a testament to the human spirit, the ability to face difficult circumstances, and the strength found in the connections with those who were there to support him.

Photographing children is magical. Their dedication to and enthusiasm for the process is refreshing and often yields amusing results. In this particular shot, the juxtoposition of the brevity of the pose clashes with the humorous upside-down bejewelleld goggles. The entire shoot was a hoot, as he and his sister sifted through my bins of random props. Imagination unleashed.

Experience

This was a jewelry product shoot that turned into a dance of joy. Something unexpected transpired and the best shots of the day happened when everybody stopped being serious. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow. And as you can see, there is no jewelry in evidence.
